Finished Reading - The More the Terrier

Description (from cover):
Shelter manager Lauren Vancouver has taught herself a new trick: sleuthing. Now she has a chance to hone her skills, as animal hording leads to one less human life....

When Lauren finds out that her old mentor, Mamie Spelling, is an animal hoarder, no one is more shocked, and she jumps in to help rehome the cramped critters. But Mamie's trouble don't end there. She's accused of murder when the CEO of a pet shelter network is found dead. The aggressive businesswoman was bullying Mamie to join her organization by threatening to expose her hording, but that was before Lauren took control of the situation. Now, Lauren's dogged determination to clear her former friend of murder may put a killer on her tail...

JAK/Jayne Castle/Amanda Quick

Oh, man, where do I start! Ms Krentz currently writes under three names and has had books published under several others. This information is from the author's website as is current to the best of my knowledge. I include it here so I can better keep track of series order and books owned/needed. I keep losing my papers.

The best thing to do is "copy and paste" the complete book list. This is available as a PDF for download. Some of the books have description so go explore her website. The sad thing is that this list doesn't show all the linked books, but the linked books pages, don't show the stand-alones.

This is all about the Vamps! I'm going for level 1 and plan to read 1-5 books. Really only need to read the three for challenge 3.

Challenge 2: Paranormal at Tale from the Crypt
No Vamps Allowed! But shifters, witches etc.... are all welcome. I'm going for level 1 and plan to read 1-5 books. All the books in challenge 3 will be paranormals.

Challenge 3: Immortal at Under the Covers*
*this is an "adult" blog and you'll need to okay that you really want to go there.
I'll be reading 3 books but there are four categories so there will really be TWELVE books. Love "okay to overlap" <3

Mystery and Suspense...Cozies!

I LOVE cozy mysteries! I joined two cozy challenges last year and it looks like there will be three this year. Debbie's Book Bag Cozy challenge is new to me this year but Cruisin' thru the Cozies is a repeat ;) The other is a summer challenge so I'll have to keep my eye out for it.

The best thing about the Mystery & Suspense Challenge, beside reading mys/sus, is that cozies count :D

Challenge 1: Cozy Mystery Challenge (sign-up & details here)

Debbie wants reviews so I'm going for Snooper and will read & review 1-3 books.

Challenge 2: Cruisin' thru the Cozies (sign-up & details here)

I'm going for Investigator and plan to read 7 - 12 books. I read 14 last year but two didn't overlap so I'm saving a couple for that challenge

Challenge 3: Mystery & Suspense at Book Chick City
read mystery & suspense books, no audiobooks. I'm going to read Twelve books. I'm so glad cozies count!

I've already got a stack of cozies on my shelf.....

To-Be-Read challenges!

I joined a TBR challenge with plans to read 30 of my own books. No problem. Books purchased during 2011 don't count. Okay, problem. That wasn't my only failed TBR type challenge, I also failed the TBR Dare. I only committed to reading 6 books before reading a new one. Dang, I only read three!

Trying again this year with lots of challenge books picked from my shelves. I've chosen different levels in the hopes that I'll complete at least one of the challenges. Should do better but Stephanie Lauren's has a new book out on 1-31, third in a trilogy!

Challenge 1: Mt TBR at My Reader's Block
No books from 2012, purchased or gifts. No library books, re-reads or ARCs. I'm going for Mt. Vancouver and hope to read 25 books

Challenge 2: Read Your Own Books at Tales from the Crypt
No books from 2012, purchased or gifts. No library books, re-reads or ARCs. I'm going for level 2 and hope to read 6-10 books.

Challenge 3: The TBR Double Dare at Ready When You Are, C.B.
NO new books read until April 1, or ...(choose a goal) I choose one month and hope to not read a new book until Feb 1 (yikes! a month?)

Challenge 4: Off the Shelf at Bookish Ardour
No books from 2012, purchased or gifts. No library books, re-reads or ARCs. I'm going for trying and hope to read 15 books

Challenge 5: The Unread Book at The Hopeful Librarian
There is no goal to meet, just whittle your pile down. The catch is that 2012 books count!

I'm sure there are more out there but I think I'll stop at 5 {blush}

Finished Reading - Janeology

Description (author's website):
After his wife Jane commits an unthinkable murder, her grieving husband struggles to find a possible explanation for her actions – were they due her lack of nurturing as a child? Did she inherit a tendency toward violence from her ancestors, some with dark, criminal lives? Did he miss the signs that she was about to unravel?

When a prosecutor decides Jane's husband Tom is partially to blame for the death and charges him with "failure to protect," Tom's attorney proposes a radical defense. He plans to create reasonable doubt about his client's alleged guilt by showing that Jane's genealogy is the cause of her violence, and that she inherited her latent violence in the same way she might inherit a talent for music or a predisposition to disease. He argues that no one could predict or prevent the tragedy, and that Tom cannot be held responsible.

With the help of a woman gifted with the power of retrocognition—the ability to see past events through objects once owned by the deceased—the defense theory of dark biology takes form.

What unfolds is an unforgettable journey through the troubled minds and souls of eight of Jane's ancestors, spanning decades and continents, this debut novel deftly illustrates the ways nature and nurture weave the fabric of one woman's life, and renders a portrait of one man left in its tragic wake.

52 Small Changes: Hydrating

I'm hydrating this week.

Day one, I've been up for 5 hours and have yet to have a full glass of plain water. My soup was cream based, my breakfast drink was a soda, I've been in the car or running errands for 4 hours and didn't take a water bottle with me. I did take my medication when I got up. I haven't had enough "wet" of any kind to qualify as hydrating today.

So......Day 1: water? no. medication? check.

Sigh, let's see what tomorrow brings.

DWtS: Have you picked your final three?

I surprised myself with my choices. I want Rob to be int he final three with Ricki and J.R. Of, course, I don't want him to win, he's not that good but even if he's still on because of popularity (Palin anyone) he can dance! (Palin again)

Nancy seems to have lost heart and what was that "don't tell me your tired" bit? I love my DVR...I just fast-forwarded through whatever complaint she was making. Too bad for her, I also fast-forwarded some of her dance.

I forgot to mention a guest from last Tuesday....Justin Bieber....heard of him? Gah, who hasn't! Actually, I liked his voice, not song/act choice but he does have a nice voice. Except, well, Derek danced without his shirt. Just him and his partner. No other dancers or performers to distract the cameraman. Just Derek, half dressed. Oh, and his partner ;) I guess I'm really not a 14-year-old girl because seriously? Derek vs. Justin? No contest!

DWtS: Good-bye David

I was expecting Nancy to be gone.

I'm guess she'll be next then Hope & Rob. Leaving Rikki and J.R. to battle it out for the top spot. No idea who the third will be. I had given up by this time last season. I'm no longer voting....can you believe it was too stressful? Yikes.

I'm glad Carson is still doing stuff, he's so fun!

What is the profile of a Criminal Minds fan? What about us enjoys viewing these kinds of shows?

I don't know, I just like watching. L.D.S.K because the FBI doesn't do so good with snipers. shrug. "you don't need a gun to kill someone" no, but it helps. Good shot Dr. Reid.

Talk to someone about your headaches.

Also added to the line-up is Body of Proof and Person of Interest. I think I need to see PoI from the beginning, I feel like I'm missing something. As for BoP, I don't know if I enjoyed the show because of the show or because it involved horses. Castle is in the DVR and Bones is programed in.

The Hammer Club
author's webpage, publisher's webpage

The Hammer Club is a private club for gay men involved in BDSM therefore the following titles will involved spanking, rope, sex toys or other types of sex play between men. Reading order per author:

Bent
Marcus knows Jim is his minutes after meeting the snarly, jumpy ex-professor at the local bookstore. He thinks Jim is a natural submissive, someone who needs order and discipline in his life to help with Jim's anxiety and bad health habits. So Marcus decides to pursue Jim relentlessly, because even if Jim's mouth is saying no, his body is saying yes. There's a lot more to Jim than meets the eye, and Marcus will have to be careful. Jim knows what it means to lose everything, knows what it's like to be without friends or family. Jim feels broken, and knowing that he likes the kinds of weird things Marcus wants to do to him only makes him scared that he's losing his mind. Their chemistry is so real, so genuine, that Jim lets Marcus wear him down, lets Marcus take control. Eventually, his trust grows, allowing them to enter into the BDSM lifestyle together, learning about each other every day, with every scene. Jim is still uncertain sometimes, though, and he thinks Marcus might just want him because he's cracked. Can this top and bottom pair find a way to understand their wants and needs, and make a life that works for them alone?

Groceries
Marcus wants Jim to shake up his routine a little. In fact, that's Marcus' mission in life, so when a simple trip to the grocery store turns into something a lot hotter, Jim has to try and deal with the change in plans. It's not such a hardship, considering how much Jim loves Marcus, but will the boys ever get that shopping done?

Drawn
Giles is an artist, a man who is intense and totally focused on his art. In fact, a lot of people including some of his own family, think he's a little bit crazy. Harrison meets the artist as Giles is running away from setting up a showing at a gallery, totally freaked out, and is immediately intrigued. He doesn't think Giles is crazy, but he does believe that Giles needs someone like him, or more accurately, him, to help Giles focus on more than just his art. Giles isn't exactly easy to convince that Harrison is the man to do the job, though. Oh, he likes Harrison well enough and the sex is wonderful, but this BDSM stuff Harrison talks about is just a game, right? And Giles is worried that all the time he's spending focussed on Harrison is damaging his art. After all, you have to suffer for your art, right? Can Harrison convince him that Giles can have love, happiness and Harrison in his life as well as be a great artist or will Giles' worries about his artwork drive them apart for good?

Found
Billy has no idea what prompts him to take in a ragged, dirty man off the streets. All he knows is that Montana calls to him somehow, and that he always listens to his instincts. Montana, or Tanny, thinks that Billy is crazy, because nobody is that nice. Not in his experience, anyway. Tanny brings all sorts of problems with him, from addiction to trouble with the police. Billy is determined to make Montana whole again, and he thinks he knows just the thing to replace Tanny's favorite high. All Billy has to do is help Montana get back on his feet, and then he can teach Tanny all about his lifestyle. Too bad no one believes that Tanny is redeemable, least of all Tanny. Billy's friends threaten to become overprotective, the people who populated Tanny's life on the street pop up at the most inopportune moments, and Tanny thinks that Billy is far too good for him, a homeless guy fresh off the reservation, scarred and way less than perfect. Can Billy convince Tanny to give him, and their newfound relationship, a chance? Or will the reality of Billy's lifestyle scare Tanny off just when life is starting to get good again?

Snared
Everything's going great for Billy and Montana. Their relationship is proceeding nicely, and Tanny's work as an apprentice to Margaret making custom books is something he not only loves, but is really good at. He's never been happier, even if he still thinks it's all too good to be true. Billy's over the moon because he's in love, and he's enjoying playing house with Tanny. Exploring their relationship and trying to deal with Montana's past should be more than enough to keep them busy and focused on each other, but fate and the outside world just won't let them settle in and do that. Between interfering friends who have only the best intentions at heart, and an overeager cop who doesn't have the same faith in Tanny's ability to change that Billy does, things go from bad to worse. Billy will have to put everything he has and is into convincing his lover that Montana's home truly is with Billy. Can Billy and Montana commit to each other fully, or will they fall apart when the chips are down? Snared is the sequel to Billy and Tanny's first novel, Found.

Owned
Push
Baked
When his younger twin brothers Darius and Devin wreck everything in his life in just a few short days, big brother Clay decides to enlist the help of a friend. Bake is a top at a club called the Hammer, and knows just how to handle two subby boys, even if no one else can tell them apart. Bake is a twin himself, and knows about the special kind of bond that creates. Dare and Dev might be a little closer than Bake and his twin, Bean, have ever been, but that doesn't stop him from understanding their needs.

Meanwhile, Bean meets their big brother Clay, who's just back from his tour in the military, and thinks he's found a treasure like nothing he's ever seen. Clay isn't into games, and Bean loves his straightforward style. What should be a perfect solution for all of the brothers, though, turns out to be more complicated than anyone expects. From family jealousy to threats they could never imagine, the boys will have to be tough to take on what life throws their way. Is there strength in numbers, or will both families be torn apart?

Forged
Simon is not sure he'll ever find the right sub for him. His last relationship ended badly, but he's determined not to let it rule his life, so he heads for the Hammer, his favorite members only club. A man never knows what will come his way at the Hammer, and at least his friends there know and love him. Big, buff cowboy Jeremy just got a job as a bouncer at the Hammer, and he thinks Simon is the hottest thing he's seen in a long time. He'd never found a Dom who suits him, but Simon might just be the thing to cure his bedroom blues. Their relationship heats up fast, but just as things seem to be as good as they can get, tragedy strikes. All of their friends from the Hammer gather to support Jeremy and Simon, but all of the support in the world might not be enough to make Jeremy let Simon in again. Can Simon hold it together long enough to convince Jeremy they're worth the effort, no matter what?
